THE good news: Melbourne will have four National Basketball League derby games between champions Melbourne Tigers and certain big improvers South Dragons this season. The bad: there will be four Saturday night clash games.
With the two teams each having nine Saturday games, venue unavailability has forced them to schedule the clashes. The draw released yesterday has the Dragons playing their first match under Olympic coach Brian Goorjian against the Taipans in Cairns on Saturday September 13, with their first home game against Adelaide 36ers at Hisense (formerly Vodafone) Arena four nights later. The Tigers start their title defence in Sydney on September 14 against Sydney Spirit (the old West Sydney Razorbacks). Melbourne's first home match will be against Gold Coast Blaze at the Cage (the State Netball Centre) on September 20.The Melbourne derbiesOctober 18: Dragons' home game, Hisense ArenaDecember 13: Tigers' home game, CageJanuary 26: Dragons' home game, Hisense ArenaFebruary 7: Tigers' home game, Cage
